Response to the letter sent by Bill Shorten

Dear Clients, Guardians and Stakeholders

I understand you may recently have received a letter from Bill Shorten, the Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme, outlining the steps being taken to clamp down on unscrupulous behaviour, including overcharging, by some NDIS service providers.

Your Home Care wholeheartedly supports this initiative, and I wanted to take the opportunity to reassure you about our organisation and how we are working to support our valued clients.

Registered NDIS provider

Your Home Care is a registered NDIS provider, which means you can trust that the care we provide complies with the NDIS’ quality guidelines, including the training of our Support Workers. In addition, the NDIS conduct regular audits to make sure we meet or exceed those standards.

Only around 10% of NDIS providers in Australia are registered, and as such we are proud to commit to these quality standards, and to safeguarding our clients.

Pricing

It is important to note that the prices we charge are set by the NDIS. We do not charge more than what the NDIS stipulate in their schedule of fees.

Bill Shorten comments

Bill Shorten said, “There are many, many good providers. The vast majority are decent people working for themselves or good businesses doing the right thing.”

At Your Home Care, we are absolutely confident we fall into this category. A couple of months ago I shared with you the results of our most recent Client Feedback Survey, where 92% of our clients said they are either very satisfied or satisfied with the quality of our Support Workers (the remainder said they were neutral, and importantly not one client said they were dissatisfied).

We have been caring for the most vulnerable people in our community since 2010, and have grown to become one of Queensland’s largest independent NDIS providers. We are always looking to improve the services we provide and we welcome the focus Bill Shorten is giving to improving how the overall NDIS sector operates.

If you have any concerns I encourage you to please reach out to me.

Yours sincerely

Chris Smedley
